Day Shelter

Our Day Shelter offers a safe, welcoming space for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability to rest, recharge, and connect with vital resources. Located in the heart of Salisbury, HOPE’s day shelter is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing a compassionate environment where dignity and respect come first.

Guests have access to basic needs services including restrooms, hygiene supplies, light snacks, water and coffee and seasonal clothing (when available donations allow). The shelter also serves as a central hub for resource navigation and referrals — connecting individuals to community services.

In addition to essential support, our day shelter is a place for human connection and stability. Whether you need a quiet place to rest, help completing paperwork, or information about local resources, HOPE is here to meet you where you are and help you take the next step forward.

Expectations for Guests

To ensure the day shelter remains a safe and supportive space for everyone, all guests are expected to:

  • Treat staff, volunteers, and other guests with respect and kindness.

  • Follow staff instructions and respect all guidelines.

  • Refrain from disruptive behavior, including yelling, threats, or harassment.

  • Substances and weapons are not permitted on the premises.

  • Sleeping is permitted only in designated seating areas; beds and cots are not provided.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in being asked to leave for the day or longer, depending on the situation.

How to Check In

No appointment or referral is required to visit the day shelter — simply sign in at the front desk upon arrival.

If you are requesting services, you’ll be asked to complete a brief intake form to help us better understand your needs.

  • Meals: Lunch tokens are distributed beginning at 10:00 a.m., and lunch service starts at 10:30 a.m.

  • Snacks are available based on available donations.

  • Showers: Guests who wish to shower will be asked to sign a liability waiver and will receive a wristband. At the shower trailer, hygiene products and fresh underwear are provided.

Photo identification is not required. Our staff is always available to answer questions, explain available services, and connect you with additional support as needed.

Partner With Us

This winter, HOPE is seeking community partners to host short group sessions for day shelter guests, offering training, educational opportunities, and resource information on topics such as employment, health, life skills, and community programs.

If your organization is interested in scheduling a session or learning more about partnership opportunities, please contact us. Together, we can make a greater impact in the lives of those we serve.
